Why Marie Selby photographs well

The banyan grove is a natural cathedral. The grove of mature banyans on the north side of the property has prop roots dropping from a closed canopy 40 feet up. Light filters through in dappled patches — beautiful, but unforgiving if your couple is standing in the wrong spot. Ceremony locations on the property

Schimmel Wedding Lawn. The dedicated ceremony lawn with bayou and downtown skyline views. Best for 80–200 guests. Western exposure makes it ideal for late-afternoon ceremonies and a problem for midday ones.

The Great Lawn at the Payne Mansion. Grass between the mansion and the bay. Best for 60–150 guests. More framed by landscape than the Schimmel Lawn — the mansion is in every wide shot.

Banyan grove ceremony. Under the canopy. Best for intimate ceremonies (40–80 guests) and works at any time of day because the canopy filters the light. The aisle through the prop roots is one of the most distinctive ceremony aisles in Florida.

Orchid display house (small ceremonies). 20–40 guests in a glass conservatory. The most weather-proof option on the property.

Reception spaces

Payne Mansion loggia and lawn. Tented receptions on the great lawn with the mansion as the backdrop. Capacity 100–250. Sailcloth tents read well against the historic architecture.

The Great Room at the Welcome Center / new facility spaces. Selby's recent expansion added contemporary event spaces. Capacity and configuration vary — confirm with the venue.

Banyan grove dinners (smaller events). Long-table dinners under the banyans for 40–80 guests. String-light installations photograph beautifully through the canopy.

Logistics couples ask about

Parking. Visitor parking on site is limited. Most weddings use the venue's overflow lot or shuttle from nearby downtown garages. Confirm shuttle logistics with your event manager 60 days out.

Vendor access. Vendors load in through the service drive off Mound Street. Florists need 4+ hours for the Schimmel Lawn arch and reception florals. Caterers work from a dedicated catering staging area near the welcome center.
