Boston Engagement Photography

I love Acorn Street early in the morning or late in the day. The cobblestones get really crowded by mid-morning, so an early start means you have the lane mostly to yourselves and the light is soft on the brick. For Hannah and Joe's session we worked the Beacon Hill side first, then chased the golden hour over at the Esplanade, that flow tends to give you the calmest version of both spots.

Absolutely, and it is one of my favorite things to build in. Hannah and Joe did a quick change between Acorn Street and the Charles River, so the cobblestone photos and the riverside golden-hour photos feel like two distinct looks. As long as we plan the route, you have plenty of time to switch and still catch the best light.

I usually like enough time to walk Beacon Hill and Acorn Street, do an outfit change, and then end at the Esplanade and Charles River for golden hour. That two-stop flow is what Hannah and Joe did and it never feels rushed. The key is timing the back half so we hit the river right as the light goes warm.

The Esplanade is made for golden hour. About an hour before sunset the light goes soft and warm across the water and the skyline, which is exactly when I photographed Hannah and Joe there. I shoot it candidly, walking, talking, real moments, rather than posing you stiffly, so the river and the evening glow do the heavy lifting.

Yes. I spent fifteen years shooting weddings and engagements across Boston and New England before moving to the Gulf Coast, so spots like Beacon Hill, the Public Garden, and the Esplanade are home turf for me. I still travel back for Boston couples, and an engagement session is a great way for us to get comfortable together before your wedding day.

It can be excellent. Hannah and Joe shot theirs on a perfect New England summer day in July, and it gave us everything, Beacon Hill in the first half of the session, then the Esplanade and Charles River during golden hour. Summer buys you a long evening, which means you're not racing the light between locations. That's a real advantage when you want more than one backdrop.

Yes. Hannah and Joe did their engagement session in Beacon Hill and along the Charles, and they're getting married the following year at the Red Lion Inn. The session doesn't have to happen where the wedding does. Boston is a beautiful place to shoot regardless of where you're saying your vows, and it gives us time together before the day itself.
