If you want to relive the real laughs, tears, and toasts rather than a re-staged version, that's the style to ask for.

Most couples are well covered from getting ready through the first hour or so of the reception, which usually lands in the eight to nine hour range, but it really depends on your timeline and how spread out your day is. The honest answer is to walk me through your schedule and I'll tell you where the real moments fall so you're not paying for empty hours or missing the toast. I'd always rather you cover the parts that matter than pad the day.

Clean audio is what makes a wedding film worth rewatching, your vows and toasts have to be crisp, so I mic the key sources rather than hoping a camera picks it up across the room. Many Boston venues, especially the historic ones, get dim during ceremonies and receptions, and I bring gear built to handle that without lighting up the room like a film set. Yes, if it matters to you. Aerial footage can add a perspective you can't get any other way, especially at a venue with grounds or a view. Ask whether they offer it, whether they are licensed to fly, and whether it costs extra. Also worth checking that your venue allows it. Better to know now than to be disappointed later.

Ask this one early. Some Boston wedding videographers are known for setting up several cameras in the most obnoxious places, and some show up with a crew. You should know upfront what their footprint looks like at your wedding. It is your day and your guests. Nobody should be surprised on the wedding day by how many people are in the room.

Ask for a clear timeline before you book. Wedding videos can take weeks or even months to edit, and that range is wide enough that you want it in writing rather than assumed. Get a specific delivery expectation and hold onto it. A good videographer will tell you plainly instead of being vague about it.

Ask directly. If your videographer is traveling to your venue, there may be travel fees or lodging requirements attached. It is a normal part of the conversation and easy to sort out at booking. It is much less fun to discover it later. Get the number in the contract so your budget is real.

Read it before you sign. You want to know what happens if plans change, what fees apply, and what your rescheduling options are. Weddings move for all kinds of reasons. Knowing the policy going in means one less thing to panic about if something shifts.

You should be able to. If there are particular moments or details you want in the film, a person, a tradition, a room, say so and make sure your videographer is open to your input. Ask this before you book. Someone who welcomes that conversation is someone who is going to listen to you on the day.

Find out the delivery format, digital download, a drive, a disc. Also ask about online hosting, because that is usually what makes it easy to send to family and friends who want to watch. A film nobody can open isn't much of a film. Sort this out before the wedding, not after.
